Bloom is presented as a billboard for the consumption of passersby in cars or on foot. I am working with visual modes of selling “natural” beauty in my latest body of work. Bloom is based on time lapse footage from a Monsanto film reel from the 1950’s, selling a soil conditioner called Krillium. Monsanto became one of the key architects in the field of genetic engineering, which has been a subject of much interest in the popular realm and art world.

Bloom is part of a larger cycle of work referencing our relationship to the natural world. Inherent in the range of drawings, paintings, and projections is the acknowledgement that nature influences our designs and in turn we design nature to a degree that has no equal in history. The visual language borrows from Chinese and Japanese landscapes, CAD drawings, pop graphics, and European painting.
