| In his transgenic series, plant shapes replicate themselves in divergent landscapes of small urban spaces or pastoral scenes creating a creepy uniforminty. Titles riff on names of plants created for the gardeners' market, some real and some fabricated. These images seem to suggest a state of fabricated predictability. Playing with the notion of intellectual property and patent originally protected in Thomas Jefferson's contribution to US patent law, Leibert captures and digitizes plants from his environment and fixes them to canvas and in some cases casts them to the web for further replication, critiquing the practice of patenting genetic information. | |||||||||
