D.E. Johnson

I make drawings that tell stories, some complete within themselves or some connected to other drawings. The subconscious is lush ground for interesting matter, so I try to connect with my innate self, producing images that fuse with nature. I seek visions of the wierd, hopefully, creating narratives with a visual bite. My focus examines African feminine presence concerning gender, sexuality, and race where I draw the visual anthologies of women, a collection of stories athat extend beyond Western stereotypes. These are artistic documentations of truth and fantasy in the lives of African women.
