Scott Belville
|
"Belville's surreal views of the world force us to be conscious of the real world around us. We can accept the realities the artist shockingly presents in a world that seems removed from our own. Yet the familiarity of his scenes disturb us enough to make us reflect, become concerned, and perhaps even inspire us into action. Although Belville's approach is indirect, his paintings make us confront some of these issues (whether personal or universal) rather directly....The fears, complexes, guilts, and biases which he exposes are not necessarily his own; rather they are our own. Belville cunningly switches roles with his viewers, allowing us to paint our own narrative content and associations into his shell. "
